. . . and so do other Muslim holidays, as well as Jewish, Hindu, Sikh, and Chinese holidays. EU "holidays" too. Interestingly, the calendar was produced as an EU propaganda "Christmas gift" for three million European school children.
From the UK Telegraph:
The European Commission has come under fire for producing more than three million copies of an EU diary for secondary schools which contains no reference to Christmas but includes Jewish, Hindu, Sikh and Muslim festivities.
More than 330,000 copies of the diaries, accompanied by 51 pages of glossy information about the EU, have been delivered to British schools as a "sought after" Christmas gift to pupils from the commission.
But Christians have been angered because the diary section for December 25 is blank and the bottom of the page with Christmas Day is marked only with the secular message: "A true friend is someone who shares your concerns and will double your joy".
While the euro calendar marks Muslim, Hindu, Sikh, Jewish and Chinese festivities as well as Europe Day and other key EU anniversaries, there are no Christian festivals marked, despite the fact Christianity is Europe's majority religion.
Majority. That's such a non-PC word. Majority = knuckdragging bigots ready for "retraining." They should just shut up and pay their taxes to support privileged minorities who have legitimate holidays to celebrate. And their children should be made to feel that there is something a bit wrong and embarrassing about celebrating a Christian holiday.
Johanna Touzel, the spokesman for the Catholic Commission of the Bishops' Conferences of the European Community, said the absence of Christian festivals as "just astonishing".
"Christmas and Easter are important feasts for hundreds of millions of Christians and Europeans. It is a strange omission. I hope it was not intentional," she said.
Obviously, Christians were not included in the design of a calendar intended for 3 million school children, most of whom are Christian. That's interesting. Where does the EU keep its Christian employees, if any? Chained in the basement?
"If the commission does not mark Christmas as a feast in its diaries then it should be working as normal on December 25."
I like that idea. How about passing out some lumps of coal to replace those festive alcoholic beverages that the EU commission is no doubt imbibing?
A commission spokesman described the diary as a "blunder" and said that in the interests of political correctness there would no references to any religious festivals in future editions.
All Christian holidays were excluded. Obviously the result of "carelessness."
"We're sorry about it, and we'll correct that in next edition. Religious holidays may not be mentioned at all to avoid any controversy," he said.
Uh huh. Europe is famous for its lack of "controversy."

Wow, just wow.
ReplyDeleteThe saddest part of the story is this quote:
Johanna Touzel, the spokesman for the Catholic Commission of the Bishops' Conferences of the European Community, said the absence of Christian festivals as "just astonishing".
"Christmas and Easter are important feasts for hundreds of millions of Christians and Europeans. It is a strange omission. I hope it was not intentional," she said.
Seriously? Considering how naive this lady is, is there no wonder the EU could care less about leaving out Christian Holidays? Not intentional? I could understand that statement for Fat Tuesday or something, but I hate to break it to the Catholic spokesman, Christmas is a kind of a big deal. Unless you live under a rock in Afghanistan, you are pretty aware of when Christmas is going down.
@fleeceme - Agreed. The "I hope it was not intentional" statement offers the EU the benefit of the doubt, which is completely undeserved--not to mention inherently dishonest--because the EU's denial is anything but "plausible." That needs to be pointed out.
ReplyDeleteAnother very sad note: The EU is using Christian complaints of exclusion this year as an excuse to rip the holidays of all religions off the calendar next year. That's the ultimate goal, of course.
What's really disturbing about this whole insane story is the fact that our current 'leaders' have a nasty habit of imitating what Europe does. It's already considered a faux pas by our eggheads to say "Merry Christmas" and as an NPR bobble head recently demonstrated, to even call a Christmas party a "Christmas Party" - how much longer until they try to wipe all evidence of Christ completely from our culture too?
ReplyDelete@Zilla - "NPR bobble heads" - that's a perfect description! LOL.
ReplyDeleteThe socialist progressive Marxist Democrats have been wiping evidence of Christ from public view for a long time; that, and mocking Christians and icons of Christian belief. To the bobble-heads, Christians are embarrassing evidence of uneducable bitter clingers--but, interestingly, not so uneducable that they don't feel a pressing need to restrict our access to information via various media.
This is NOT a war on Christmas, it's a war on Christianity. And it's here in America, too, school calendars are being changed to eliminate Christian holidays (but keep those of other religions), we all know about the endless lawsuits and complaints about Christmas trees and nativity scenes, scientists (so-called) are now saying that Christmas trees should not be displayed publicly, people apologize for saying the WORD "Christmas"!, and kids are being told they can't wear crosses to school. The fed tried to get that bank to stop having Bible verses and Christmas decorations. The list goes on and on. WE are under attack, and we have to find a way to fight back, or they will indeed eliminate all evidence of Christianity from this planet.
ReplyDelete@Fuzzy - It's been decades since a creche was permitted on the public square in Lexington, Mass, site of the first battle of the Revolutionary War. And the middle of the Mojave Desert is not out-of-view enough for an 8-foot cross erected by veterans, despite the "protection" of special Congressional legislation and a decision by the Supreme Court.
ReplyDeleteMy view: It is time for all Americans, whatever their religious beliefs, to support Christian displays. Christianity is the most threatening religion to Western socialists at present, because it is the majority religion, but even a cursory glance at the historical record shows that Christianity won't be the last belief system to be under attack. Mao and Stalin were both equal opportunity persecutors of religion.
The only thing that shocks me about this is that people complained. Europe has become so secular I am surprised that they care.
ReplyDelete@conservative girl - I am very sorry to hear that! Maybe they are complaining mostly in the UK. I know that there is considerable British pride in the Church of England.
ReplyDeleteEU and UN are both ANTICHRIST organisations, and they are the Muslim dhimmis who are guilty of the High Treason and the genocide of the Western civilisation, culture, values and tradition. To erase Christianity, Christmas and Easter from the New 2011 Calendar is the act of the extreme evilness and the persecution of Christians and the Christianity from the Christian continent. EU must disband ASAP,coz it serves only the enemies of Christianity and has no purpose in Europe, apart from committing the genocide of Christianity and treason. EU aims to Islamise Europe and that means committing the terrorist attacks on the European population. DISGRACE AND SATANIC ACTS LIKE THIS HAS NO PLACE IN EUROPE!!!
ReplyDeleteFunny how almost a full month later, NOW the rest of the blogosphere and even TV is on fire over this. Quite Rightly, you are far ahead of the curve!
ReplyDeleteReminds me of when Oliver Cromwell banned Christmas!
