In the Big Rock Candy Mountains

Recorded in 1928, this was a very popular song among young homeless men riding the rails looking for work and sleeping in "hobo jungles" during the Great Depression.

Many fathers from the Greatest Generation remember this song with a twinkle in the eye, and to them especially I send greetings for a Happy Father's Day!

  1. The Big Rock Candy Mountain is actually located 20 miles from my home town.

  2. Trestin - I never knew there was such a place! From the video, I can guess that the peaks might look just like rock candy in a certain light. But, of course, the mountain might be named after somebody named Candy! What do I know? It's beautiful, anyway. A great place to hail from.

  3. That was a great song! I loved the beat of the music.
